Individual Psychotherapy
What is “individual psychotherapy?”
Individual psychotherapy is a form of mental health treatment that involves one-on-one sessions between a trained professional (therapist) and an individual (client) seeking support. We believe in a collaborative therapeutic process. Individual therapy will allow us to join forces and work through your unique life circumstances with resilience and grace.
Unlike group therapy, individual counseling is solely focused on the client’s personal experiences and goals, allowing for in-depth exploration and customized support. This individualized attention helps clients gain insights into their own thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, which can be transformative in the process of healing.
What is the value of individual psychotherapy?
Individual therapy at Daniels Psychotherapy is designed to help individual's receive support and experience growth during challenging times in life. A real value of psychotherapy is the opportunity to tell your story to someone who is willing to listen and trained to help you achieve all the good that you want out of your life.
Individual therapy differs from getting advice from friends, family, and acquaintances, since it is a professional service provided by a licensed professional.
What is the duration of each therapy session?
Individual therapy sessions typically last 50 minutes. The duration can very based on the therapist's approach and the individual’s needs. Your therapist will recommend a frequency that supports you in terms of your goals and honors your schedule.
What should I expect from my first session?
Your first therapy session, also called an initial intake assessment, is an important one. It symbolizes a huge step you've taken towards change and growth. The first therapy session involves establishing your relationship with your therapist. Your therapist will gather information about your history, current challenges, and the goals you have for yourself. This session helps your therapist tailor their approach to meet your needs.
You might find it helpful to bring a few questions to the initial session to gather more information about our theoretical perspective, counseling style, and practice policies. We encourage questions and look forward to answering yours.
How many sessions will I need to get better?
There is no right answer to this question because psychotherapy is dependent on the individual and their unique life circumstances. One particular client may “need” a handful of sessions to resolve one issue; while another particular client may “need” a long-term approach to address more complex issues.
Whether your time in therapy is short-term or long-term, therapy at our practice can have life-changing effects that last much longer than the therapy itself.
How often should I attend therapy sessions?
Sessions typically occur weekly or bi-weekly. The cadence of our sessions will depend on your individualized needs and goals. Your therapist will give you their suggestions and together, we’ll determine what works for you.
Couples Counseling
What is “couples counseling?”
Couples counseling is a form of mental health treatment that involves sessions between a trained professional (therapist) and partnered individuals (clients) seeking to improve their relationship.
When the love in a relationship doesn’t work, then we hurt. Couples therapy exists to help you tend to the hurt.
How does couples therapy work?
Your therapist will welcome you into therapy with care while creating an environment of trust and honesty to explore the unique challenges motivating you to seek therapy at this time. Your therapist will identify relationship dynamics, roles and patterns, and help you learn necessary skills to enhance your present day connection.
We don’t take sides, we don’t play favorites, and are non-judgmental. We respect both people’s views and identities because the both of you are valued members of your relationship.
When is the right time for couples counseling?
If you’re asking yourself if the time is right for couples therapy – then, it is.
Some couples enter couples counseling in times of crisis (e.g: discovery of a betrayal), while others, want assistance in improving their communication skills; steering the uncertainties that come with life transitions; or learning how to renew a shared vision for the future.
What can we expect in couples therapy?
The process begins with your therapist getting familiar with your relationship by learning your background history, the current challenges you are facing, and what your goals are for your relationship. It is common for partners to have different goals, we can work through that. You can also expect your therapist to assign you homework assignments to support growth of the relationship when not in session.
Is it normal to argue in couples therapy?
It is normal to argue in couples therapy. It is normal to argue in relationships – period! When strong emotions are involved, it is often difficult for partners to really listen to one another. This is where the couples therapy at Daniels Psychotherapy can help you..
With the help of your therapist, you’ll be able to pause, listen better, respond differently, and build a stronger relationship…
one argument at a time.
What therapeutic approaches do you use?
We utilize principles and techniques which derive from the Gottman Institute Couples Therapy Model, as well as, Sue Johnson’s Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy Model. Both models are aimed at helping you improve your organically formed dynamics, improve your communication, resolve conflict, and ultimately, strengthen your bond.
